Your child has been selected by their school to take part in an Action Tutoring maths and/or English programme, delivered by volunteer tutors at their school or via an online platform.
The Action Tutoring Programme
Action Tutoring is a national education organisation, supporting young people to improve their grades by pairing pupils with high-quality volunteer tutors, assisting them in building their subject knowledge, confidence and study skills. Private tuition can cost up to £40 per hour and we would like to provide pupils with the same quality of support without the cost – our tuition is completely free for you and your child. Your child’s school is contributing to the cost of running the programme.
Tutoring sessions take place weekly in school. Every tutoring session matters, meaning good attendance is key. Please support us by reminding your child about their sessions.
Action Tutoring Data Policy
In order for us to safeguard your child, tailor the tutoring to them, and aid us in the potential future evaluation of our tutoring programmes, we ask that your child’s school shares some information with us such as their date of birth, Pupil Premium status, subject ability and unique pupil number. Action Tutoring also tracks pupil attendance and holds video recordings of any online tutoring sessions. All information is kept securely and is only used for the purposes of delivering the programme and evaluating its impact.Video recordings of online tutoring sessions are kept for approximately one full academic term after a programme of tutoring has finished.
You can read our data policy for schools on our website (www.actiontutoring.org.uk), which provides further detail on what information is requested, why information about your child is required for the programme, and the way in which Action Tutoring and the school plan to securely exchange, use and store the information.
Online tutoring support at home
We expect most pupils to access the online tutoring support from in school, with the supervision of school staff and an Action Tutoring programme coordinator. However, some pupils may access the online tutoring support from home. In this situation, we ask for your support as a parent/guardian to help the sessions run smoothly.
As far as possible, provide your child with access to a device (ideally a computer/laptop) with the best internet connection available to them.
- Remind your child about their online sessions.
- Be available during the sessions to support with any issues.
Please note that we may ask your child’s school to share your email and/or phone number with us in order to help us coordinate your child’s online tutoring sessions with you.
