Matt Griffiths

Pronouns: he/him

Matt Joined Action Tutoring in January 2021 as Programme Coordinator for Bristol.

Matt is responsible for overseeing a caseload of partner schools in Bristol, liaising and working closely with the schools and pupils as well as managing our pool of volunteer tutors.

Matt grew up in the south west, spending his childhood primarily in Cornwall and Bath. He went on to study History at the University of Leeds, specialising in the Maroons of Jamaica. After graduating from university, Matt knew he wanted to work with young people. Following the competition of his PGCE in 2019, he spent a year as a history teacher at a local secondary school in Leeds.

As a teacher, Matt saw first-hand the difficulties facing disadvantaged young people prior to and during the pandemic. Matt believes that we should strive for a society in which a child’s life chances are not hindered by their socio-economic background and he is passionate about working for a charity that shares the same philosophy.

Outside of work, Matt’s main passion is music. He plays synth in a band and is an avid record collector and DJ. He also loves playing football, reading and film.
