Rachael Flatt

Rachael joined Action Tutoring in April 2022 as Programme Coordinator for London.

Rachael is responsible for overseeing a caseload of partner schools in London, liaising and working closely with the schools and pupils as well as managing our pool of volunteer tutors.

In my previous job I delivered outdoor education to a wide range of young people. Through this job I saw huge disparities in the opportunities available to pupils and wanted to move to a role where I could support efforts to close the attainment gap. While on furlough, I volunteered for a local Mutual Aid group and saw first hand the impact of the pandemic on educational inequalities. I learnt new skills and realised how much I enjoyed working with volunteers. I was looking for a role where I could work with young people and volunteers and Action Tutoring was the perfect fit.

I love that I am not stuck at a desk all day. As a Programme Coordinator I travel to different schools and work with pupils, teachers and volunteer tutors every day. We work with the same pupils during the academic year and in my role I get to see pupils progress and feel more confident with a subject, which is really rewarding.
