Sophie Cowling

Pronouns: she/her

Sophie joined Action Tutoring in March 2022 as Programme Coordinator for Liverpool.

Sophie is responsible for overseeing a caseload of partner schools in Liverpool, liaising and working closely with the schools and pupils as well as managing our pool of volunteer tutors.

Whilst completing an integrated master’s degree in Psychology at the University of York, Sophie volunteered with a local charity aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable children through mentoring. It was through this role that she gained a deep interest in how inequality during childhood can affect overall outcomes later on in life.

After graduating, she worked in education as both a learning support assistant in a primary school and as part of the mental health team in a high school. Alongside this she was also tutoring English and maths both online and in person. Working for a charity has always been a goal for Sophie and she feels very lucky to have found one so aligned with her own passions for allowing all children to realise their full potential.

Outside of work Sophie is a novice gardener who enjoys growing her own produce and flowers! She loves spending time outside in the garden with her cat, Star. She also loves reading, talking about politics, and Star Trek!
