I love that everyone at Action Tutoring is very supportive and I felt welcomed straight away. I love catching up with my team on a Friday so we can work through any challenges together, celebrate the highlights of the week and talk about our weekends.

As a Programme Coordinator, I love being able to go into lots of schools and help deliver sessions. Every day is so different and I get to visit different areas of London and to meet a diverse range of people from different backgrounds.

I am looking forward to seeing the charity grow and continue to make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged children by reaching more schools and areas across the country.

I was drawn to working at Action Tutoring because I thoroughly enjoyed working in the education sector but I was looking for a way to further support underprivileged students. Action Tutoring was able to offer me a role that combined my love of education with my passion to work in the charity sphere.

I really appreciate the variety in my role. No two days are the same and I am constantly given new challenges and interesting obstacles.

I enjoy working in an organisation where people work collaboratively to achieve a common goal.

Having been a primary school teacher, I have seen how pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds have less access to the tools that help them progress academically. I strongly believe that tutoring can help pupils reach their full potential and close the attainment gap.

As a Programme Coordinator, I enjoy working with different people each day and seeing pupils make continuous progress.

I am looking forward to seeing Action Tutoring expand its reach so that we can help as many pupils as possible.

I enjoy Action Tutoring’s working culture and that every member of my team is friendly and always willing to lend a helping hand!

I have previously volunteered as a mentor in underprivileged schools in London, and enjoyed it tremendously. The experience convinced me to find a job in the charity sector working with children from low-income backgrounds, and Action Tutoring was one of the only charities which was evidence-based and provided measurable results from their work.

I really enjoy meeting loads of new people in all of my schools, and connecting with pupils, volunteers, and teachers.

I am looking forward to Action Tutoring expanding in even more areas than before, so we can reach as many pupils as possible.

Action Tutoring is such a positive and welcoming work environment. It has been great to have the opportunity to facilitate educational programmes for young people in my community.

I love that my role requires me to interact with multiple stakeholders on a day-to-day basis. Being able to connect tutors with our schools and pupils and learn from the various people I work with has been very rewarding.

I have worked in similar roles that support young people from disadvantage backgrounds and quickly became passionate about being a part of supporting young people that need it most. I really align with Action Tutoring’s mission and feel grateful to be able to be a part of it.

Growing up in a small town in Cornwall, I know that provisions like what Action Tutoring provide very rarely reach the more rural communities in the country so I am excited to see how Action Tutoring’s work develops in the South West.

I enjoy the supportive culture of the organisation and the fact that everyone is driven by our mission to reduced inequality and disadvantage for children. I also enjoy that even though it is a national charity it has a real local focus.

I love seeing children build in skills, knowledge and confidence through our partnerships with teachers in local schools.

I started volunteering as a tutor with Action Tutoring in 2020 while I was working as a private tutor and studying. I found the workbooks, online training and Programme Coordinators really professional and helpful, and working with my pupils was incredibly rewarding. I was really excited when I saw in February 2022 that the Bristol team was looking for another Coordinator. I thought that if each tutoring session brightened my week, I’d probably love being a Coordinator as we run seven sessions a week!

I love the supportive culture at Action Tutoring, and I feel very lucky to be part of such a strong team. Everyone here cares immensely about our cause and will happily do whatever they can to help each other. Most of all, I love attending the sessions I coordinate. Seeing the positivity and kindness of the volunteers and the progress of their pupils over the weeks and months is really uplifting.

I believe that all young people deserve equal access to opportunities, regardless of their background. I’m excited to be part of an organisation that works to achieve this by narrowing the attainment gap.

It’s incredible seeing the huge difference the tutoring sessions make to a pupils confidence! Every week, I get to witness pupils accomplish something that they had been finding difficult previously – these are such wonderful moments! I really enjoy being able to go into schools to talk to the pupils, tutors and teachers about how much progress the pupils are making.

I was drawn to working at Action Tutoring because I wanted to be part of an organisation working to close the attainment gap between pupils facing disadvantage and their peers. From my background in teaching, I know that tutoring really works to improve attainment, confidence and study skills, but not all pupils are able to access it. I could see that the work of Action Tutoring is an essential part in bridging that gap and I immediately wanted to get involved.

Something I enjoy about my role is seeing a pupil who usually finds it difficult to focus in a classroom environment really thriving in their tutoring session. It’s lovely to see their focus, effort and determination building in each session with their tutor. They always leave the session feeling positive and with a sense of achievement.
