Connie is responsible for overseeing a caseload of partner schools in London, liaising and working closely with the schools and pupils as well as managing our pool of volunteer tutors.
I enjoy how much AT prioritises connection and learning throughout the team. It is quite difficult when you have a remote team to maintain connection but AT manages to support all their staff members to regularly connect with one another by making this a priority. For example, by offering a buddy system, in-person office days and team days. There are also lots of opportunities to learn new skills which is great because every member of the team has a unique background or expertise to share with the team.
I have worked in small charities delivering mentoring and tutoring programmes in the past and the role seemed like a great fit and opportunity for me.
I really enjoy the diversity of the role and the different skills I am able to develop in the role. I enjoy speaking with tutors and supporting our volunteers to feel comfortable delivering their sessions. I really enjoy catching up with the pupils we work with and hearing their feedback/what they have learnt from their tutors. I enjoy sharing the highlights from the sessions with the schools and teachers we work with. I have also really enjoyed covering online and in-person sessions where I can and seeing the impact a maths or English session can have.
There have been lots of new school partners this year for AT and I am looking forward to seeing the impact of these new programmes and hopefully retaining partnerships with these new schools.
Action Tutoring has been exceptionally supportive of mental health and each week the mental health first aiders who are working that week are highlighted to the whole team for you to reach out to if you need any mental health support. AT genuinely cares about the mental health and wellbeing of their staff.
