Trusts and Foundations

Our vision is a world in which no child’s potential is limited by their socio-economic background. We achieve this by harnessing the power of volunteer tutoring to deliver impactful maths and English tuition for disadvantaged pupils, rapidly building their subject knowledge, confidence, and aspirations.

To unlock opportunities for thousands more young people and embed this support where it’s needed most, we seek strategic partnerships with brilliant Trusts and Foundations who understand the importance of evidence-based educational equity.

If your foundation is seeking to close the attainment gap at scale, we would love to discuss our work, share our detailed impact data, and collaboratively explore how a partnership can achieve your philanthropic goals.

There are a variety of ways you can support us:

Support our essential costs

Core funding not only sustains our vital services but also allows us to deliver with confidence, allocating funds where they are most needed to ensure both the sustainability of our charity as well as the highest quality support for our pupils. Essential costs include: salaries associated with our central functions teams including HR, finance, and fundraising, along with office space, utilities, and more.

 Invest in our reach

Thanks to our virtual model, we are now able to meet a sector-wide need for additional academic provision in rural and coastal areas of high deprivation. Regional funding helps support growth in new regions, whilst empowering your Trust/Foundation to strengthen and bolster your local community.

Invest in our impact

Being evidence-based is one of our core values; our Impact and Evaluation team are committed to ensuring our programmes are making measurable impact, using data to drive change and ensure quality.

Our funders

The work of Action Tutoring could not take place without the generosity of others and the support of our incredible funders. We are grateful to past and present funders, with our 2025/26 supporters including:

We are also grateful to other valued trusts and foundations who wish not to be named.

Here is what some of our current funders are saying about us!

Action Tutoring is an engine of impact. For fifteen years they have focused relentlessly on a single thing – make tutoring accessible to all – to close the attainment gap between young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and their better off peers. Action Tutoring’s leadership, dedication and high standards make it an exemplar of how charities should be run in the UK.

Impetus

The Considered Ask uses the Ask Model to identify and target financial support to high potential charities to help them increase their impact. We have been supporting Action Tutoring since 2022.

Action Tutoring demonstrated a clear understanding of the scale of the need for additional tutoring in schools, especially following the Pandemic. We could clearly see the impact the organisation was having on the young people it works with, and that there was potential to expand that impact with support from us.

We have been impressed by the work Action Tutoring has conducted during the period we have been supporting the organisation, and by its ability to identify and respond to changes in the external environment.  The quality of reporting is of a consistently high quality and our interactions with the staff team have been informative and enjoyable.

The Considered Ask

We believe in supporting a diverse range of charities across the UK. From local community initiatives to large national projects, the common thread is that all our grantees make a real positive difference, improving lives and strengthening communities throughout the country. We are delighted to be supporting the work of Action Tutoring, helping children across the country reach their full potential

The Garfield Weston Foundation

We first started working with Action Tutoring during the Covid-19 pandemic. The attainment gap was at risk of widening further due to the disruption in education and Action Tutoring already had an established track record in providing maths and English tutoring to pupils at risk of leaving school without basic qualifications. Finding Action Tutoring and funding this support was particularly important in Chester where there were no other charities offering anything similar.

As well as the impact the tutoring has on students, Action Tutoring provides a great volunteering opportunity for adults who have the right skills and want to give back to the community. We enjoy reading the case studies about the children who are receiving support and feeling more confident in their studies.

The Westminster Foundation

QBE and Action Tutoring have worked in partnership for almost 3 years. Together, we have supported 2,250 students to make meaningful academic progress and QBE employees have volunteered more than 650 hours as virtual maths and English tutors. Action Tutoring’s volunteer-led approach demonstrates the impact that mobilising skilled volunteers can achieve when combined with an innovative curriculum and targeted support. Their model is making a tangible difference for pupils facing disadvantage, helping them realise their future potential.
