Alastair Tanner

Volunteer tutor on the feeling of contributing to the community

Alastair Tanner is a PhD student and teacher of Biology at the University of Bristol, where he has been for seven years. Al has tutored with us for one full term and is now on his second! He says, “Tutoring takes up an afternoon, but it is good to get out of my office and adapt how I teach in lofty academia for kids in the classroom...” He also feels the best thing about volunteering with us is the feeling of contributing to the community.

Al has learnt from his experience that he knows more than he realises and can be more confident! The advice he gives to other tutors who are about to start tutoring with us is to be open with the pupils, and you will find you know much more than you realise.
