Jess Ashdown

Pronouns: she/her

Jess is responsible for the delivery of some of our tutoring programmes in partner schools in Newcastle, both online and face-to-face. This includes working closely to manage all key stakeholders: schools, pupils and volunteer tutors; regularly attending weekly tutoring sessions; leading on reviewing and improving programme delivery, and using data to reliably assess programme performance.

After teaching English abroad in Italy, I was looking for a role where I could combine my education experience with meaningful community impact, which is what attracted me to Action Tutoring.

I enjoy the collaborative nature of the role and being part of an organisation that helps make education more accessible and close the attainment gap. The part of the role I have enjoyed the most so far has been working with and supporting tutors. Drawing on my own experience in teaching and tutoring, I like being able to offer guidance and encouragement.

I’m looking forward to continuing to develop in the role and building new relationships in schools in Blyth. I’m excited to see the organisation reach more students and expand its impact.

I really value flexitime as it allows me to have greater work-life balance. It makes me feel more autonomous and trusted to do the job effectively within my own schedule.
