Safeguarding
Our non-negotiable commitment
At Action Tutoring, we believe that all children have an absolute right to a childhood free from abuse, neglect, or exploitation. Our commitment is non-negotiable: all adults involved in our activities have a direct duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of every child we work with.
‘We are delighted to have worked with Action Tutoring as a contributor on our ‘Child protection for tutors’ e-learning course, which aims to improve tutoring associations’ and independent tutors’ understanding of their role and responsibilities in protecting children they work with from harm.’
Helen Munn, Service Head – External Online Learning, NSPCC
Robust procedures and due diligence
We work closely with our partner schools to ensure our programmes are delivered safely and securely. Our procedures are mandatory and strictly enforced:
- Mandatory checks: All staff and volunteers must hold an up-to-date enhanced DBS check before being allocated to a partner school.
- Mandatory training: All personnel receive comprehensive, mandatory training in safeguarding and child protection. This training is completed before working with pupils and covers:
- Identifying different types of abuse.
- Becoming familiar with Action Tutoring’s Code of Conduct.
- Clear protocols on how to respond to a suspicion or allegation.
Quality assurance and compliance
Our systems are regularly audited to ensure the highest standards of safety and consistency.
As part of the National Tutoring Programme (NTP), Action Tutoring successfully passed a thorough external safeguarding audit in November 2022. This audit confirmed that safeguarding is an intrinsic part of our organisational culture and that all personnel reflect consistent, clear safeguarding messaging across all stakeholder groups.

‘I would recommend Action Tutoring to other schools without question. I would recommend them for their impact, the confidence they instil in children every year, their flexibility to find the right approach so that each child can excel, their professionalism and for the amazing progress children make as a direct result of their tuition.‘
