Our impact in 2023-24 – a snapshot
We’re helping to close the attainment gap. Here’s a snapshot of our 2023–24 impact data – a look at the difference Action Tutoring helped make for the pupils we worked with.
6,003 children and young people aged 9 to 16 accessed 61,119 hours of tutoring, delivered by 1,896 volunteers. More than one in ten had support in both English and maths. 67% of places were taken up by pupils eligible for the Pupil Premium grant.
Primary schools
62% of disadvantaged young people we supported met the expected standards in reading, compared to 52% of all pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds nationwide.
The more maths sessions pupils attended, the higher their likelihood of achieving the expected standard, even when accounting for prior attainment and school context.
Teachers choose children to take part in Action Tutoring programmes who they know are at particular risk of not meeting this benchmark in their key stage 2 SATs. This makes their achievement all the more meaningful.
Secondary schools
62% of disadvantaged young people we supported passed their English Language GCSE, compared to 52% of those from disadvantaged backgrounds nationwide.
And 61% passed in maths, compared to 52% nationwide.
