Jen joined Action Tutoring in August 2025 as Maths Curriculum Coordinator (mat cover). Her responsibilities include creating bespoke curriculum resources for our volunteer tutors to use and conducting virtual training sessions for new tutors.
I first became involved with Action Tutoring as a link teacher while Head of Maths at a secondary school. I was immediately impressed by the positive impact the programme had on our students, giving them the best chance of success in English and Maths GCSE. After leaving the classroom, I was eager to continue working to close the disadvantage gap in education, and Action Tutoring proved to be the perfect fit.
As Maths Curriculum Coordinator, I enjoy creating engaging curriculum resources and exploring the most effective ways to explain mathematical concepts to students. I also value the opportunity to work with our dedicated volunteer tutors during their initial training, drawing on my experience as a maths teacher to help them build their skills and confidence in supporting young learners
The role offers flexitime and TOIL, which really helps me maintain a good work-life balance. As a working mum who’s passionate about her career, having that flexibility makes a big difference — it means I can thrive both at work and at home.
