FAQs
Not sure what to expect or have any questions?
Event fundraising is a popular and effective way for charities to raise money. It involves participating in a specific event, like a race, a trek, or an abseil, and asking your friends, family, and network to sponsor your effort. The money you raise directly supports our cause and helps us continue our vital work.
We’re so pleased you are interested in fundraising for us! If it’s for a charity space event that we have promoted, please fill out this form and a member of our team will be in touch with next steps.
If you’re interested in taking on your own challenge or event, then please email our Fundraising Coordinator, Sarah Chandler, directly on sarah.chandler@actiontutoring.org.uk
Please visit the event website directly to view the specific eligibility criteria. Each event has a minimum age requirement. By signing up for the event, you confirm that, to the best of your knowledge, you are sufficiently fit and healthy to take part in the event.
Our charity spaces in events are limited so it would depend on availability. However, we would strongly encourage you to get in touch and explore this with our fundraising team.
You are also more than welcome to source your own spaces in a team activity and fundraise in aid of our mission.
Yes! We would be thrilled to have you support us in our mission. You’ll receive the same support as our other fundraisers but won’t have a minimum fundraising target, just raise as much as you can! Get in touch with us to get started.
Please get in touch with our fundraising team to discuss which event you’re interested in!
You’ll create your own personalised online JustGiving page. You will then share this page with family, friends, and your wider network to encourage them to donate (e.g via email and WhatsApp). Most of our fundraisers find this effective, but if your network is looking for more incentives to support you, you can host small events like bake sales, car washes, or raffles, or simply ask for donations in person.
We’ll give you ideas and resources to support you, but the real power comes from your personal commitment to the fundraising.
Yes, each event has a minimum fundraising target that you agree to raise when you sign up. This amount is reflective of what our fundraisers have raised previously, and helps ensure we raise enough to cover the race cost, as well as supporting our mission and pupils.
Please note, entry donations do not count towards fundraising targets. We also have suggested ‘aspirational’ targets if you want to aim a bit higher. We’re here to help you every step of the way to reach and even exceed your goal!
Yes! Whilst fundraising is a great way to raise awareness of our cause, you are welcome to choose to donate the full target amount, and then you’ll have no minimum fundraising target to reach.
Whilst we do expect each fundraiser to reach the minimum target, we understand that sometimes things don’t go as planned. If you are struggling to reach your target, please get in touch with us as soon as possible. We can work together to explore additional fundraising ideas and support you in your efforts.
Yes! If they are UK tax-payers, supporters can tick the Gift Aid box during their JustGiving checkout. This helps us claim an extra 25% on each donation, making a huge impact. Find out more about Gift Aid.
Absolutely! It’s always worth checking with your workplace if they have a matched funding scheme. This is a fantastic way to maximise donations and exceed your fundraising target. If you need any additional information from us to apply for this, please get in touch.
We’re here to support you throughout your entire journey. You’ll have a dedicated team member from Action Tutoring, on hand to support you during your journey with us. Once you’ve signed up for your chosen event, we’ll email you a digital ‘Welcome Pack’ with all the information you need. This will include details on how to set up your online fundraising page, tips for sharing your story, and guidance on reaching your fundraising goal.
In addition, we will provide you with regular fundraising tips and resources, a Google Meet drop-in call the week of your race, an optional WhatsApp networking group, and support on the day of the event itself (dependent on staff availability).
We’ll also provide you with a branded Action Tutoring t-shirt to wear on the day provided you raise a minimum of £50, unless you opt out of receiving this. These are usually sent two weeks prior to the event. We will reach out with our t-shirt size guide and ask for your address.
Yes! Whilst we encourage each fundraiser to wear our branded Action Tutoring sports t-shirt, we understand that you may wish to wear your own kit.
Please let us know if you’d like to opt out of receiving the t-shirt, as this helps us reduce the environmental impact and cost of sending t-shirts that won’t be used.
Race packs are sent out to participants by the official event organiser. Please check their website or get in touch with them directly for more information. You’ll hear from them throughout the weeks in the lead up to the event so will have all the information you need to know.
We’ll be sad to see you go, but we understand that unforeseen circumstances can happen. Please notify us as soon as you can so we can make the necessary arrangements. We can discuss options for your fundraising, and the potential need to transfer your space to another participant.
As per our terms and conditions, if you have to drop out after the event deadline and have not yet started fundraising, you may be liable to cover the cost of your event space.
Amazing! Fundraising comes in all shapes and sizes. From bake sales to comedy nights, raffles to read-a-thons, there’s so many ways to fundraise for us. Check out our Fundraising Pack and get in touch for further support.
That is completely understandable, event fundraising is not for everyone. There are many other ways you can support Action Tutoring, including raising micro-donations whilst you shop with easyfundraising, or becoming a regular monthly supporter. Please see our online Fundraising Pack which has more ideas on how you can support us on our vital mission of tackling education inequality.
You can also get involved in our advocacy work, by engaging and resharing posts from our social media platforms and signing up to our newsletter.
