It is our immense pleasure to share our annual Impact Report for 2024–25, a year that marked a new chapter for Action Tutoring.

What do teachers say?

We work with primary and secondary state schools across England to deliver heavily subsidised, high-quality tutoring for pupils facing disadvantage in Years 5, 6, 7, 10 and 11. Each year, we survey teachers to ensure our service matches our impact – here’s what they had to say in 2024-25 (average survey response):

9/10
would recommend Action Tutoring to another school.
8.9/10
agreed volunteers had enough subject knowledge to support pupils effectively.
8.8/10
agreed our curriculum resources were effective in helping prepare pupils for exams.
Adaptability and tailoring

What I particularly value about Action Tutoring is their adaptability and responsiveness. For example, the maths resources were tailored to better align with our teaching methods, and I was included in discussions about how the charity tracks pupil progress through baseline and progress assessments. Their commitment makes a real difference in the academic development of our pupils.

How we measure our impact

We believe that transparency and evidence are paramount to driving meaningful change. Our approach to measuring impact moves beyond anecdotal success stories to employ a rigorous, data-driven framework that tracks pupil performance against national benchmarks.

Real-time monitoring

Baseline assessments and progress checks

Before tutoring begins, all pupils complete a baseline assessment. We use this data to produce ‘gap reports’ which tell the tutor precisely what subject areas to focus on.

Midway through the programme, pupils sit a progress check to track gains.

Comparison against national benchmarks

Benchmarking against national pass rates for disadvantaged pupils

We rigorously gather SATs and GCSE results every year to ensure our impact is measurable for all our partners.

Soft skill development

Pupil surveys and case studies

We gather pupil feedback throughout the year to monitor soft-skill development, ensuring our impact is robust.

External evaluations

In 2025-26, Action Tutoring is proud to partner with the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF)

The evaluation will use a randomised controlled trial (RCT) design to assess how our innovative approach improves maths attainment and attitudes among pupils facing disadvantage in Years 7, 10, and 11.
