The team spirit is incredible at Action Tutoring, and everyone is very dedicated and friendly. I really feel valued and supported. I know that there is always someone to help if I have a query or a concern.

Having spent my career as a teacher, I know that tutoring can be a powerful tool to improve not only grades and attainment, but also confidence and study skills. I joined Action Tutoring because I wanted to help ensure that children facing disadvantage have access to tutoring to unlock their potential and progress in life.

I really enjoy working together as a team to help pupils. It’s so rewarding seeing them enjoy their tutoring sessions.

I particularly enjoy the moments you have a bunch of kids in a room engaged with the content and having fun with their tutors, as they develop their subject-specific skills and confidence.

As a full-time working parent to a tweenager and a baby I value the package AT offers in terms of pay, generous holiday, flexi-time, and working hours.

Having worked in education and previously managed a tutoring programme, I was interested in Action Tutoring’s focus on working with pupils from disadvantaged areas. I was especially drawn to the charity’s advocacy and their commitment to helping learners bridge the attainment gap.

I love supporting our friendly, collaborative and committed team to ensure that our learners and partner schools are having a smooth and enjoyable tutoring experience. I have the opportunity to learn from a range of people who are all working together to have a positive impact on schools and young people.

Having worked in education and private tuition previously, I have seen first hand the barriers that disadvantage pupils face to accessing a fair education. This inspired me to be a part of an organisation whose mission it is to work towards a solution to the attainment gap.

I love how varied every day is, being able to support the Programme Coordinators with their delivery in schools and being able to meet new schools across the Midlands region. I also love how supportive and kind the whole team is, and ultimately the great work that is done in schools!

I’m looking forward to supporting more schools and pupils all around the country.

I am a former primary school teacher with experience teaching in schools across London, Manchester and Walsall. I have witnessed first hand the difficulties pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds face and think tutoring is a brilliant way of helping these pupils overcome some of these difficulties.

I enjoy interacting with a range of pupils and tutors across the different programmes I oversee. Variety is the spice of life!

I was brought to Action Tutoring by a passion for working with young people and in education. I was previously a volunteer tutor with Action Tutoring and was drawn to their mission of reducing the education attainment gap, which impacts children from disadvantaged backgrounds. This is something I am extremely passionate about. I like how I have the opportunity to work with different stakeholders, such as schools, volunteer tutors and pupils.

I am looking forward to Action Tutoring expanding its reach and working with more schools and pupils. Additionally, I am looking forward to continuing to help disadvantaged pupils achieve academically and professionally.

I like that I am coordinating programmes from the very start, and I hope to be able to oversee when they finish. It makes me feel like I am truly having an impact on the pupils, volunteers, and schools that I work with.

As someone with a background in education, I was looking for a non-teaching role within the education sector. Paired with my previous commitments with different charities, Action Tutoring provides a position where I can combine my previous experiences in both sectors.

Being able to interact with a wide variety of people in an educational context has been particularly enjoyable.

In the future, I hope that we can involve more schools, more pupils, and generally more regions of the UK in order to widen our reach and have a positive impact on a larger scale.

Winter office day closures mean I can spend more time with my loved ones, enjoying winter festivities with them.

Action Tutoring is a very supportive and inclusive place to work with a wide variety of skills, knowledge and previous employment experiences within the team. Everyone working at Action Tutoring is genuinely invested in the mission and supporting young people and children in education.

I really enjoy meeting and helping the pupils on the programmes and supporting them with any queries they have. It is amazing to hear them engage and work with their tutors on their English or maths. There is a real sense of achievement from the pupils in the room at the end of a tutoring session and that is so wonderful to see!

To work somewhere that places so much importance on mental health is refreshing and welcomed. I really benefit from the free access to Headspace and just doing a short three or four minute meditation on Headspace really helps to clear the mind ready for the next work task.

I enjoy working for an organisation that shares my values and commitment to making a positive difference to disadvantaged and marginalised groups. The team at Action Tutoring have been welcoming and there is a supportive culture among colleagues.

I have a history of working within the charity sector, with a specific focus on education and the issues surrounding educational disadvantage. Action Tutoring’s mission to close the attainment gap is a continuation of the value led work I have already been involved in.

I look forward to seeing Action Tutoring’s presence and reach grow in Nottingham. Also, more broadly to see our expansion into new regions across the country.

I enjoy working for an organisation with whose aims and motivations match my own. You feel like you are truly making a difference and using education to help change people’s lives. There is a wonderful workplace culture here and I was made to feel welcome before I started in the role.

The last team day was a wonderful opportunity to meet members of the organisation from around the country. As a new starter it gave me a great insight into the wider team and I learnt so much, about my own role and those of others, from our time together.

Before joining Action Tutoring in August 2022, I had been working in education since 2016. I previously taught history at a top 30 UK university both in-person and online, across several academic years. I have long been motivated by a desire to reduce inequality in education and began working for two other educational charities, as part of the quality assurance team and more importantly as a tutor. It was through these roles I ended up finding out about the NTP and Action Tutoring. When a possible placement in Nottingham became available I jumped at the opportunity to join as a Programme Coordinator.

As a Programme Coordinator I particularly enjoy supporting the tutors, pupils, and schools in order to make their experience as rewarding as possible. Having previously tutored for another organisation I know how important is to make sure all sides are pulling the same direction and this aspect of the job is the most rewarding for me.

I am looking forward to seeing Action Tutoring expand further across more of the country. I have always been interested in educational inequalities in rural and coastal communities, and hope in the future that we will be able to further support those regions.
